About
Louise Gaubert
(b. 1999, Paris, FR) — lives and works in London, UK.
I explore intimacy through memory, desire, and the tension between what is visible and what remains unspoken.
I am interested in moments where something is about to happen or be given, but never fully takes place. My work often sits in that in-between, where attraction and discomfort, softness and rigidity, celebration and exhaustion overlap. Through these tensions, I question how desire, validation, and emotional labour are constructed, and how they shape the way we relate to others and to ourselves.
I work across sculpture and installation, using the architectural language of the home and the street. I am drawn to what lingers: traces, objects, and gestures and how they carry emotional charge. Domestic elements appear as more than just objects; they become points of passage between inside and outside, self and other.
Text appears in my work as fragments. I use unsent messages, notes from my phone, bits of thoughts that I embed or hide within materials. They reflect a difficulty in communication: the pauses and hesitations that stay internal.
Through installation, I create spaces of encounter where the viewer is invited to slow down, come closer, and feel. I want the viewer to inhabit these overlaps of intimacy and control, becoming aware of their own emotional responses and physical stance within the space.
I completed an MFA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, London, and a BA at ENSAPC (Beaux-Arts de Cergy), France.
